Store bought taco seasoning mixes are often full of additives and allergens. Make your own garlic free taco seasoning at home! It’s easy peasy and can be used for more than just tacos.

One of the first things I realized when our son was diagnosed with a garlic allergy is HOW MANY FOODS contain garlic. Garlic isn’t required to be on an ingredient label, so it hides under “natural flavors” or “spices” or “vegetable blend.” I like flavor in my food, so I’ve made it my mission to create exciting custom spice blends for our family. I’m excited to share this one with you!

Taco Meat made with garlic free taco seasoning

Even if you don’t have a garlic allergy, give this taco seasoning a try. It comes together quickly from spices you may already have in your pantry. I buy individual spices and herbs from our local bulk food store and Penzey’s Spices, and I may or may not have three or four spice bins, ha! Simply shake all of the different spices together in an airtight container, then keep the jar in your pantry for a late night taco party.

The one ingredient that you may not already have is ancho chile powder. Ancho chile powder gives taco seasoning, chili powder, and other blends their dark red color and smokiness. It’s fairly easy to find and makes a huge difference in depth of flavor!

Allergy Friendly Taco Seasoning

Make Garlic Free Taco Seasoning Allergy-Friendly for You!

As written, this recipe is garlic free, vegan, top 9 free, and nut free. The cornstarch is optional if you are allergic to corn. If you take out the cornstarch, only add 1/3 cup water instead of 1/2 cup when making taco meat. Always remember to read the company policies for your spice brands, and make sure there isn’t any cross contamination with your allergens. You can add extra cayenne pepper to make it spicier, or decrease the salt if you’re trying to reduce sodium. I promise that you won’t miss the garlic!
